From the very start of the ascent the turns follow rapidly one after another. After a few introductory passages and the traverse of the old 4x4 track, the challenge takes a left along the path of the Plan de l’Aiguille via the Pré du Rocher. The latter is attained after 550m of climb on an intermediate slope. The second part of this ascent has clearer views, with a string of zig-zagging tracks among the larches, « varosses » (green alders) and rhododendrons. From here you can see a view of the surrounding summits. However take care to keep concentrating on the track as it becomes more technically challenging. In the last few hundred metres of the ascent, the Plan de l’Aiguille hut is the focal point … This is where the steepest part of the challenge is! Taking advantage of the rocky steps which lead all of a sudden onto the flat surrounds of the hut, you can finally stop the clock (signposts). The descent can be made by cable car down to the Plan de l’Aiguille cable car station, or on foot, either by returning along the same route, or via the path through Les Grands Bois which descends down the other side of the hut (ends back at the start of the challenge).
